Why should a Smoker/ I attend this programme?
Generally people try to quit on their own by either tapering or cold turkey method (abrupt quitting) or home remedies however they bring in lots of relapses and loss of self efficacy in terms of quitting smoking.
Since nicotine is addictive, quitting smoking leads to symptoms of nicotine withdrawal such as nicotine cravings, anxiety, irritability, depression, and weight gain. Professional smoking cessation support methods attempt to address nicotine withdrawal symptoms to help the client break free of nicotine addiction.
What will take place in the programme?
- Dependence Level on Nicotine will be examined.
- Dependence type will be found (whether it is physical, psychological or social dependence)
- Psychological (Thinking, Feeling and Behaviuoral) Techniques to quit smoking will be given
- Lapse/relapse prevention strategies will be discussed.
He is a working as counselor for IIT-Madras on behalf of Your Dost. He visits IIT Madras every Friday and provides individual counselling for its students and employees. He is an affiliate counselor to Workplace Options – an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Provider to Corporates. He is also a guest faculty to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Staff College, Chennai.
He has done his M.Phil in Psycho-oncology specializing in Tobacco Cessation from Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, Chennai. He got his post graduation in Counselling Psychology from Madras School of Social Work, Egmore, Chennai. He has cleared Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test (TNSET) in Psychology.
