The internship is embedded in the training programme itself. It will be mostly practical and less theoretical. In PG Diploma, every day at least 1 live counselling session will happen for you to observe in Sunday Batches and in weekday batches, at least 1 session per week will happen. In Advanced Skill Diploma, one counseling session will happen on alternative classes. Participants would become clients voluntarily, they will be sharing their original concerns. So they are going to be real live counseling sessions and not just role plays or mock sessions.
In the course, the facilitator helps you to learn the theories which he practices to help his clients and helps to improve your skills and just NOT the knowledge. He will show how he practices counselling by doing counselling sessions in front of you and helps you to get a concrete idea of how to put the theories into practice. Theories are taught with practical examples. So that there is no gap between theory and practice.
In college courses, the ones who prepare the syllabus do not write the books for the syllabus. The academicians read the reference books and share their understanding that is why the colleges courses are mostly theoretical. The academicians are not all the time directly trained in the theories and models written in the books. So they are not able to train you in developing the skills with so many hours/months of education.
In our courses, the facilitator is the one who prepares the syllabus, writes the material and trains you in the model he practices. So you are learning from the person who made the model directly. The essence of the course is maintained as it is not different people dealing with the preparation of syllabus, books and training.
Counselling is an art like swimming or driving. Seeing the facilitator doing the counselling sessions will not enhance your counselling skills. So we give you the opportunity to do counselling in front of the trainer like they do in swimming classes or driving classes.
In our courses, the facilitator will do the counseling sessions for you to observe for the first 3 sessions. After that, as participants are trained well, they will start doing the counseling sessions. For weekend batch of PG Diploma, we make sure that at least 1 counseling session happens from 4th day till the end of the course. We also try to do 2 counseling sessions per day in the last few days of the training. In weekday batch of PG Diploma, we make sure at least 1 counseling session happens in every week. Hence usually you will observe 12-15 sessions. In Advanced Skill Diploma course, we make sure at least 1 session is done by participants on every alternate class. Hence you will usually observe, 25 counseling sessions.
If you are struck during the session, you can freeze the session and get ideas from fellow participants or from the facilitator or look at your notes. Once you get some clarity, you can unfreeze the session and continue the process. ‘N’ number of times, you can freeze and unfreeze the counselling session. There will be a discussion on the session immediately to correlate with the theories learnt.
In our other programmes such as trainings, webinars and workshops related to counselling skills, facilitator would do counseling sessions based on the number of hours available. Surely at least one counseling session will be done for you to observe. Please understand theory will help you practice effectively.
